Have you ever wondered how some people can create everything from art to well-being? They just seem to pick a goal and before you can say Peter Pan three times they accomplished their goal. They get what they want. Are they superhuman? Nope. More than likely they have a “formula” that works for them. I have a formula that works for me and it’s worked for my clients. Maybe it can work for you too? It’s based on four principles for creating what you want.
When is the last time you really spent time reflecting on what you want? This is a very important first step, but we often don’t give it enough space and time. For me, reflection begins with two questions.
A year ago, I asked myself, how can I create an environment so my body can heal? I knew it would take an overhaul of my environment in order to heal. What does that look like? That’s a great question because you automatically start to visualize the answer. For me that meant changing my diet, thoughts, ideas, people and more in order to create a healing environment.
Please know that it may take time for you to process your answers and that your answers may change. As I began to create a new healing environment, I used my intuition and focused of what felt right in my soul.
The next principle is exploration. I spent months exploring how to create a healing environment. What food should I eat? How do I test my water? Which cleaning products are toxic? What books can help me? Who can help me? This is where Mr. Google is your friend because you can explore right from the comfort of your home. You can find information, classes, groups or coaches that can help you move forward. Sometimes when we explore an idea, we may find that we don’t want to move forward or we are asking the wrong questions. And you know what? That’s okay. Just go back to reflection and sit with it for a while.
The third principle is social connection. The truth is, it is easier to create what you want when you engage with others. Find someone who has been successful and send them an e-mail, call them on the phone or invite them to coffee or lunch. Also, look for local groups in your community who can offer you support. One caveat is social media groups. Not all groups are created equal and it can be hard to find deep support. In my experience anytime I have asked someone for help they have been gracious with their information and time.
The last principle is to actually create. I would suggest sitting down and reflecting on your plan. It may seem overwhelming, so use small steps by breaking down major parts into doable and easy task. For example, when I was creating a healing environment I decided to add one new vegetable a week. That’s it. I went to the Farmer’s Market and found a vegetable I didn’t eat and added it to the menu. It was fun to talk to the vendors and learn about new produce. I know it may sound tedious, but the goal is to stay away from feeling fear or overwhelmed. You are more likely to actually move forward with your plans.
